the fine print, in plain words

Privacy Policy

Bookie is built local-first: your library lives on your phone, not on our servers. This page explains exactly what that means. Last updated May 29, 2026.

The short version

Bookie stores your bookmarks, notes, folders and to-dos in a database on your device. There is no account and no synced cloud copy. We don’t show ads, we don’t build an advertising profile of you, and we don’t sell anyone’s data. When you save a link, its address is sent to our summarising service only long enough to generate the summary that comes back to your phone.

What we collect — and what we don’t

Stays on your device (we never receive it)

  • Your saved bookmarks, summaries, thumbnails and tags.
  • The personal notes and to-dos you write.
  • Your folders, theme, and app settings.
  • Your name, if you choose to enter one during onboarding.

Sent to our service only to do its job

  • The link (URL) you ask Bookie to summarise. It is transmitted to our summarisation backend, which fetches the page and returns a title, summary, tags and thumbnail. We do not keep the URL or the generated summary on our servers after the response is sent back to your device.
  • Basic technical data needed to deliver that request (such as your IP address as seen by the server), handled transiently and not used to identify or profile you.

Optional crash diagnostics

If crash reporting is enabled in a given build, Bookie may send anonymous diagnostic information (such as an error stack trace and device/OS type) to a crash-reporting provider so we can fix bugs. This never includes your bookmarks, notes, or the contents of your library.

What we never do

  • No accounts, emails, or passwords.
  • No advertising and no ad/marketing trackers.
  • No selling or renting of personal data to anyone.
  • No cloud backup of your library (so please back up your device).

Permissions we ask for

  • Internet — to send a link for summarising and receive the result.
  • Share / receive links — so you can share a page from another app straight into Bookie.
  • Clipboard — only when you tap to paste a link; Bookie does not monitor your clipboard in the background.

Third parties

We rely on a summarisation backend to read links, and (when enabled) a crash-reporting provider for diagnostics. These services process the limited data described above purely to provide their function and are not permitted to use it for advertising.

Data retention & deletion

Because your data lives on your device, you control it. Delete a bookmark to remove it, or uninstall Bookie to erase everything it stored. Requests sent for summarising are not retained on our servers after the summary is returned.

Children

Bookie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Bookie handles data, we’ll update this page and revise the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app or on this site.
